Art with a different view

This morning the teachers switched up the art area and taped some paper to the underside of the tables. They then added markers and pencil crayons, leaving them under the table. This is what took place.

The children examined the paper first then got out their markers. They talked about how they were going to draw on the paper.
Would they lay on their backs, crouch, or just sit.

Some children worked on their own, colouring then inspecting their work. Others worked together sharing supplies and planning out their pictures.

In the end many master pieces were created!

This turned out to be a great play experience that helped expand visual imagery and manipulate materials in different ways with the spontaneous change in the use of our art materials.

Hotdog roast

The preschool groups decided with all the great weather we would take advantage, and do a hot dog roast. Staff and children talked about our fire safety rules before beginning.

The children were so excited!  Many of them talked about camp fires they had done with their family and friends.

Lots of them were watching to make sure that none of the hot dogs got burnt. A few even gave the staff some encouraging words " Your doing a great job of cooking those hot dogs!"

Some even lent a helping hand to give staff fire wood.

The camp fire was also a great time for children to socialize and enjoy each others company.

Bead Fun !!!!

This morning a child asked me if I could braid her hair. I decided to add some beads.
As I braided her hair I noticed  this child sorting the beads out into individual colors.  I asked her to pick out the colors she wanted in her hair."I like the color purple," she said. As she peered in the mirror she smiled. πŸ˜ƒ She then found a feather and asked to put it in her hair.

This child is creating a necklace with her beads. This peaked the interest of many other children who also came to make necklaces.

Creating with beads brings out various skills from:
➡️Sorting different colors
➡️Working on a child's fine motor skills
➡️Pattern making
➡️Building pride
➡️Using a material in different ways

Dinosaur eggs

The children have been having a lot of discussion around dinosaurs. So to tie into their play we decided to make dinosaur eggs, using mini toy dinosaurs frozen in water. As the play experience began the children soon found out that the task was not as easy as we thought.

"I got the head and two feet in."

"I'm gonna do the head first then the legs."

"I don't know if I can get the bumps in."

" You know there's lots of different dinosaurs. T-Rex, long necks, lots. They don't live anymore because their dead. There was no more food."

"Dinosaur. Water."

" I can feel the dinosaur inside the balloon."

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!πŸ’˜

February is the month to celebrate love πŸ’. We talked about what love means and who we love. To commemorate this day we had a party,  filled with card giving, eating treats, and a special pancake lunch. The children enjoyed and had a lot of fun.

Tree painting

This morning the children found a branch and some pots of paint at the art table.

"What do we do with the tree. Can we paint it ?"

"Look there's three colours red, purple, and white."

"I'll paint the red up to your purple."
Some other peers decide to join in.
"Look I made pink with the red and white."
"This looks beautiful. The birds would love a branch like this in their tree."

"The tree red, it's red. I'm painting."

New nature products in our Flex program

Recently one of our Discovery staff shared some pictures of  wooden toys built at another centre. Our Flex staff were inspired and got right to work on making their own creations. Here are some of the things they made for the room.

How high can you go?

This morning a child noticed someone pass by the window. So I carried the child up to see. Which provoked the idea of using a ladder.  The children all took turns.

This child is testing his limits to see how high he can go up the ladder. Slowly and carefully making his way to the top. "Look, I'm at the top."

This child demonstrates no fear. He climbs up the ladder without any hesitation. Quickly making his way to the top.

The children discovered they could see into the tall window on the door. They get a sense of feeling big and tall.

In this experience the children learn valuable skills;
⚫️testing limits
⚫️self control
⚫️large motor skills
⚫️turn taking
⚫️pride
⚫️self confidence

Fresh snow !

The children were so excited to go play in the fresh snow. Some of them used their coordination to climb a snow hill. Some went sledding, and others enjoyed making fresh tracks in the snow.
