Going fishing๐ŸŸ

Play imitates real life

Outside the children enjoyed a fishing experience in the water table. They played with fishing rods and toy fish.

This child enjoyed the experience catching several fish.  "Fish......Fish." As I watched this child I noticed him run off and as he ran he came to the boat. He said "Boat..... Boat!!!  He climbed in and began to fish. Casting  the rod and pretending to pull back the reel.

This child is role playing real life. Through this play he is recalling his experience of fishing with his dad and further more he remembers his times in the boat. That is why this child ran to the boat linking two and two together.

One potato, Two potato, Three potato, Four!

Today, our group harvested some of the potatoes that we have been growing throughout the summer.

"WOAH! That's a big one!"

We found potatoes of all different sizes, some baby-size, some small, and some that were huge!

"This one is just a little smaller."

As we harvested, our older friends helped some of the younger ones find and pull the potatoes out of the soil.
"Here, let me help you."

In general, our friends showed great teamwork in helping each other get the potatoes out of the soil, patience as they all waited their respective turns to dig, kindness for sharing the gardening tools we used and responsibility as we not only harvested the potatoes, but washed them and all of the tools we used to garden.

"We need to wash them before we use them to cook!"

After we harvested, we washed all of the potatoes together so we could use them to cook. We were thinking of baking them and making homemade French fries!
"The end result."

All in all, it was a very successful harvest! :)

Kings Park August 24th

Well today was our last beyond trip to Kings park. It was a little bitter sweet because it was the best day weatherwise that we've had for Kings park. And sad in the fact because we won't be returning until next summer.
Today Preschool two joined us. We showed them some of our favourite trails and our ever famous frog finding spot.

We used our eye hand coordination to master some hills along the way.

We even gave them some pointers on how to make it easier on getting up and down.

As we continued on the trails we came across some deer tracks. Mrs. Balharry taught us that you can identify deer tracks because they look like two finger marks with a space in between them. And that you can tell if the tracks are fresh if they are wet. If they are hard then they've been there for a while.

As we continued on we kept our eyes on the lookout for more tracks!

Before lunch we did a little "mountain climbing" up a hill. The children cheered each other on as they made it to the top.
"I didn't know I could do it, but i did do it.I really did!"

To finish off our day we did some exploring at the Rock flower garden. It's a great spot for learning  about flowers. Watching birds, squirrels and insects.

As we going through the flower garden a park staff stopped us and commented that they loved how respectful our children were of the flowers and of the park, leaving the park the way we found it and keeping it litter free.

Summer at Discovery

It's hard to believe how fast our summer is going. It's seems like just yesterday we were watching the snow melt from winter! As true Winnipeg people we do our best to take advantage of every warm day.

Homemade foot spa.
"My mom soaks her feet like this when she gets her nails done."

Cooling off on a beautiful summer day.

Team work and sharing.
"I"ll have five minutes then you get five minutes. Sound good ?"

Music with Ms Sonja. Let the rhythm move you๐Ÿ™‚

Using eye hand coordination to press flowers between fabric.
"Look it's purple just like the flower."
"Mine smells like mint bubble gum. Here smell mine."

Creating masterpieces in the beautiful outdoors.
